In the United States anorexia affects millions of people especially young women however this costume portrays it as something sexy and attractive. The "Anna Rexia" costume came out this year and was pulled from shelves almost everywhere due to how offensive it was. In our society thin is in so a costume about anorexia should supposedly be sexy. It's really upsetting that someone would actually think a debilitating, mental disorder is something attractive and funny.
This costumes makes light of a serious disorder and makes me question if society really takes anorexia seriously. You would never see a cancer-themed costume so why is it OK to have a costume about anorexia? This costume is arguing that anorexia isn't a serious disease and that all it is, is someone choosing to not eat when in reality it is an everyday struggle.
This is horrible that there was actually a costume like this. I am very glad it was pulled off the shelves. I know people who have struggled with anorexia and it is so sad to see them hate their bodies so much. This is just making fun of those people, when in reality they are already so self conscious and so down on themselves. Of course the women who is modeling is super stick skinny which is another problem with our culture. She also is in a pose that makes her look slutty with her boobs popping out. Welcome to America.
ReplyDeleteTo see a disease that is taking over lives as Anorexia does, portrayed as costume for halloween is disgusting. Being skinny is taking over the lives of women everyday, and instead of support being provided for those women people are making costumes. What is our world coming to?
