Put a mask on, it'll make you feel pretty
An everyday ritual I take part in, is putting on makeup. Even if it's just coverup, there's still some kind of product going on my face. Why I do it, I'm not so sure, but it's probably because I'm afraid to let people see what my face looks like without it. God forbid I go one day without wearing no makeup whatsoever. I'm a female, which means society has drilled the concept of "beauty" into my brain. If you aren't beautiful you're nothing. And if you're nothing then put some makeup on and you'll feel good as new. Putting on makeup is a very very common body practice for women. For men they wake up in the morning, shower, brush their teeth, get dressed and they're ready. Women shower, stress over what they're going to wear, take forever doing their hair and then to top it off they still have to do their makeup. Women are supposed to be complete wherever they go, or they aren't considered beautiful. It's something so common, yet so disturbing. There are all these add campaigns talking about inner beauty and loving yourself for who you are, and they aren't getting the message through because we will constantly be worrying about whether or not our faces are ready to go out in public. This body practice of putting on makeup was created for us by society and now we can't seem to live without it. I know I can't and it's because I'm afraid of the criticisms and I'm giving into the societal norms. So everyday I keep putting my "mask" on because society tells me it will make me feel prettier.
