Typically, what do we think of when we think of UGGs? I would agree that this photo to my right is a strong read of what UGGs signify to us young adults and arguably other age groups as well. UGGs are typically indentified with white preppy girls with skinny jeans. Throw in the huge purse. a tiny dog and a pair of UGGs and that's what I see (huge purse and tiny dog not required). The culture of UGGs seems to come from middle to high class white girls who are too cool for school and hide their hung over faces with giant sunglasses on the way to class. UGGs first appeared in High School when all the popular kids started wearing them, and eventually the fad spread around the whole country and young white girls were wearing them on the daily. I, myself, wear UGGS, which is pretty contradictory, but that just may be because I am a young white girl trying to fit in with the rest of the population. UGGs are typically Urban and they do get dirty very easily so you have to watch where you're stepping or your suede WILL get dirty (which defeats the purpose of boots). The consumption of UGGs typically takes place at high end department stores such as Nordstrom, Macys and Bloomingdales. This supports the fact that usually middle to high class girls wear them because they aren't cheap. The taller they are, they more expensive they become. I got mine for around $200.00 which was astounding for a pair of boots that get wet and dirty easily. I am just generalizing here so if you have some more comments about UGGs, feel free to share because I would love to hear from you :)
Lastly, I found an interesting UGG-hating blog and found it somewhat humorous. Read if you like, and please don't be offended I just came across it on google.
I couldn't agree more with you on the fact that anytime you see someone wearing UGG's you label them preppy or "too cool for school". And the fact that they are such expensive boots, and they will get dirty, it just goes to show that none of us UGG buyers are actually buying them for their durability, but more for the fashion statement and how it makes us look. Personally, I love the boots just because they're super comfortable, but at the end of the day I feel like Target boots could be just as comfortable and yet I still feel like I HAVE to have UGG's. Thanks for posting this, it was really relatable!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment Kelsey, I love UGGs myself so I thought it might be somewhat fun to bash myself and pull apart something I am quite relatable to. Glad you enjoyed it :)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the picture you chose to go along with this post! I'm an UGGs wearer myself, and I found this hilarious. I definitely agree that when you see someone wearing UGGs, you instantly think rich, popular, or preppy. I started wearing mine last winter because my parents got them for me for a birthday present even though I said over and over again that I did not want to be "one of those girls". Well I am "one of those girls" now, and I'm happy I am. They are extremely comfortable, very warm, and look cute with most outfits. I love them! I've never taken the time to think about how truly not durable they are. I loved that you pointed that out because that, along with how ridiculously expensive they are, makes it even more baffling as to how this trend has caught on and spread the way it has. I really enjoyed reading this post!
