What do you think about Chinese driver? When I first came to United State, I noticed a strange phenomenon: Every time when I introduce myself to an American, the most comment I heard about a Chinese people is that Chinese are awful drivers. This comment really confused me. What in the world you American people would say that? I mean, I grow up in China, I saw Chinese people driving all the time. How come I never felt that we are as bad drivers as you American people said? However, after I got my driver's license and started driving in both China and United State, I found out the reason why people say we Chinese people are bad drivers. And I have to admit. YES! WE CHINESE PEOPLE ARE AWFUL DRIVERS!

When I was driving in China, there is no "polite" this word in Chinese driver's dictionary, all the drivers are so rude and crazy! For example, if you want to change a lane while you are driving in American, when you turn on your right/left signal light, the car on the left/right lane will slow down and let you cut in. But in China, no one will let you cut in! you have to force your way in by slowly move your car to the right/left lane, and force the driver on the right/left to give you a space to cut in. Also, when driving in US, when you see a person is crossing the road, all the cars will slow down, and let the person pass first, and then the cars will go. But in China, no way that person could pass unless all the cars are gone!

Culture differences is the main reason that Chinese driver and American driver behaved differently on a same situation. Because in the US, human right is the most important thing to the society. Everyone in the society is equal, and everyone have the same right. That's why drivers in the US is so polite, because everyone is equal, and everyone has the right to use the road. But in China, because of the feudalism and class bias in the Chinese society. Driving a car signified you are a higher class than the people who doesn't drive a car. So you have more right to use the road. Therefore, in the driver's position, all the driver who's driving a car thinks he is better than the others, so that they won't give away to the others.

As a Chinese myself, I have to agree with the comment that we Chinese are awful drivers. However, despite all the Chinese driver knows that they are awful at driving, but no one would change that.
