Avatar Video Log 12

The scene I chose to analyze in avatar is when the paraplegic
marine is recording in video footage for his video log. He is leaving his
description and experience on what it is like in the world of Pandora. He
treated it as a scientific observation of the different species. During his
video log 12 he is describing how it is adjusting to his body, the people,
language and the life on Pandora. In one of the scene it shows him training
with the female avatar, Neytiri, and she is showing him the ropes. Neytiri is demonstrating
to him how to shoot with the archery and move while you’re in their planet and
what goes through my mind is how different it is than the army. I kept thinking
there is a military guy that has all this experience with weapons and surviving
in the wild but still needs training in Pandora. Pandora is not anything like
earth and it was very evident when I saw this clip. I think that showed me that
their skills really didn’t apply to their world and was very fascinated with
that. How they communicated with
creatures and their forest is something very different also. They treat their environment
with much respect and regard it as a
sacred source of energy. It made me feel as a human that these avatars are
doing a great job in treating their environment well all the time as opposed to
us humans who can be very cruel to our surroundings at times. When Neytiri was showing
the marine how to ride their flying thingy, she kept on trying to get the notion
across that you were supposed to become one with the species as to oppose to
trying to conquer it. I also thought of that as a shot to humans who sometimes try to “control” or “tame” the animals they
ride.
