I think the best scene in Avatar is when Jake wakes up in his new body. When he wakes up he is confused and a little groggy but within seconds he wants to get up and run which he hasn't done in years. When he wakes up the doctors want to run many tests on him to make sure that his new body is working properly however Jake is so happy and excited that he can walk and run again that he ignores their pleas to sit back down and runs out the door to the outside. This is one of the few scenes where the Avatar bodies are next to the human bodies and before this scene I did not think that the Avatar bodies would be so much bigger than the human bodies. When Jake stands up he towers over the doctors, even though Jake means no harm when he stands up and tries to leave he still scares the doctors simply because of his size and the strength he doesn’t know that he has. I think it is odd that Cameron chose to have the Avatar’s be much larger than the humans because in the story they are the underdog so it seems like they should be smaller and weaker instead of bigger and stronger.
The viewer can’t help but smile when Jake makes his way outside, breathes in the fresh air and starts running in the beautiful landscape. After years of being wheelchair bound Jake finally has the freedom to run. One of the best parts of the scene is when he digs his toes in the dirt. It reminds me of the first day of summer when you go to the beach and walk barefoot on the sand after a long winter. It’s a great feeling to have.
Interesting that I also did the first awaken of Jake in his new Avatar body. I think this scene is very cool, because it is the first scene that we see the real big blue man in the movie. In the scene we got a really good close look for Avatar, and also watched Jake been pulled away from his own histroy, to have a new start.
